Looking for a New Job
Even though I am really happy here at my job in sales, I must admit, it is time for a change. When you consider I have been working as a sales rep in the parts department for nearly twelve years, you can understand that this job is no longer a challenge for me and I want something more. So, I have been taking night courses so that I can work as a repairman for furnaces and air conditioners, and I think I am finally at the point I need where I can find a new job.
But looking for a job is a lot different than I remember. Instead of just taking the time to go through the want ads in the paper looking for shops that specialize in heating system repair Escondido and applying for the job in person, there seems to be a longer and more complicated process to follow.
According to many of these companies, I am supposed to apply for the job online. Since I don’t have Internet at home, this has meant that I needed to go to my brother’s house and borrow his computer. Many of these companies also have an online questionnaire that you need to fill out, as well as submit your resume and cover letter. I had to have my nephew help me out so that I did it right as I am not the most computer literate person in the world.
I also noticed that many of these companies don’t want you to call them and check up on the status of your application. That part is going to be hard for me as that was the tactic that I used to use to get any job I wanted – if you hounded them enough, they eventually gave in and hired you.
So, I am going to have to be patient and wait to see how things pan out. Hopefully, I will be able to find a job that will challenge me and allow me to put my education to use. I don’t want to be stuck in the parts department forever.
